Phoenix Mart to speed recovery?

Casa Grande has a chance to be ahead of the curve as the nation staggers through a painfully slow economic recovery. Phoenix Mart can help accelerate that process in western Pinal County, developers and city officials said Friday morning at a Pinal Partnership breakfast at The Property Conference Center.
The preliminary plan for the first phase of the project on the city’s eastern edge was approved earlier this week by the Casa Grande City Council. That would include not only the 1.5-million-square-foot main facility, but also a 100-room hotel and a 200-unit apartment complex. All of it is planned for a 500-plus-acre site at Florence Boulevard and Toltec Buttes Road, about a mile east of The Promenade.
But the facility won’t compete with the mall for retail customers, according to Jeremy Schoenfelder, vice president for developer AZ Sourcing. The project is described as a sourcing center, bringing together nearly 2,000 vendors from small and mid-sized businesses who will join forces to market their products to mainly wholesale-level buyers from around the world.
