Nationwide Open House Weekend April 20, 2013

Pinal briefcase: Realtors planning open houses - trivalleycentral.com: Area News

Posted: Saturday, April 13, 2013 8:46 am

Realtors in western Pinal County will join their counterparts across the United States next weekend with Nationwide Open House Weekend to kick off the spring home-buying season.

Prospective buyers in Casa Grande, Arizona City, Coolidge, Eloy, Florence and Maricopa will have the opportunity to visit open houses scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. next Saturday, April 20.

Realtors will be available at the open houses to answer questions about the home-buying process and local market conditions. Visiting open houses can be helpful when buyers are trying to decide what features and amenities they want in a home. Also, working with a Realtor can be an asset since they visit hundreds of homes with buyers each year and have a unique understanding of what buyers’ value in their local markets. Their expertise and knowledge can help buyers achieve the dream of homeownership.

A complete list of the many homes to be open for viewing will be published Wednesday and Thursday in the Tri-Valley Dispatch and next Saturday in the Casa Grande Dispatch.

Pinal Briefcase is a weekly collection of business news of local and area interest gathered by the Casa Grande Dispatch.  Larry Lockhart, news editor.

Study: Buying a Home Is 44% Cheaper Than Renting

Study: Buying a Home Is 44% Cheaper Than Renting

The recent rises in asking prices has been outpacing the increases in rents, but home buying still may make more financial sense, a new study shows. Owning a house was found to be 44 percent cheaper than renting, according to the latest study from Trulia that compared the costs of the two.
The study found that owning is less than half the cost of renting in 46 of the 100 largest metros. “Buying a home is cheaper than renting in all of the 100 largest metro areas,” according to Trulia.
Falling mortgage rates are helping to keep home buying more affordable. But depending on where you live, the difference between owning versus renting can be big or small. For example, in San Francisco, home ownership was found to be 19 percent cheaper than renting, whereas in Detroit owning a house is 70 percent cheaper than renting.
The following are places where home purchases exceed renting by the highest amounts:
  • Detroit
  • Dayton, Ohio
  • Gary, Ind.
  • Cleveland, Ohio
  • Warren-Troy-Farmington Hills, Mich.
  • Toledo, Ohio
  • Memphis, Tenn.-Miss.-Ark.
  • Kansas City, Mo.-Kan.
  • Birmingham, Ala.
  • Indianapolis
